No director or actor wants a stage dialect or accent to detract from the overall production. A bad dialect, an inconsistent or flatly wrong dialect can be very distracting to the audience.

Dialect 911 gives the actor and director a chance to use intonation, rhythm, patterns of speech and use of the dialect’s signature sounds to make the script up to 30-40% more authentic and humorous, especially if the script was written by a native speaker.

Diane uses a combination of group, individual coaching and CD practice sessions to hone dialect skill and to ensure the actor is authentic while at the same time, understandable to the American audience. Diane uses companion materials from famed dialect coach Paul Meier.

Diane Senffner has been working in theater for over 20 years. She started teaching stage dialects privately in 1988 and over the years has coached dozens of actors and companies in such shows as Elephant Man (Theatrescape), Dancing at Lughnasa (Fountain Hills), Enchanted April (Mariemont Players), Educating Rita (Mariemont Players) and Henry V (Southwest Shakespeare) to name a few.
