The International Phonetic Alphabet, or IPA is the unifying code that allows us to produce the sounds needed to do any type of dialect. There is a wonderful free resource to not only understand the symbols, but to hear them as well. The site is called ‘Eric Armstrong’s Voice and Speech Source’. Mr. Armstrong works for the York University in Toronto. The recordings were made by famed phonetician, Paul Meier, University of Kansas.
